Pompei, Naples, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast are very popular MICE destination – thanks to a large variety of MICE settings from large modern hotels which can host a large number of participants for conferences, seminars, product launches to an array of beautiful epoch villas and convents turned into 5 star or 4 star deluxe hotels ideal for small corporate meetings and Incentive programmes or training days. There you can combine business meeting with a mix of environments, culture, sport and teambuilding activities, and gourmet experiences. A “ must” at the end of a business programme is a visit to Pompeii, famous at global level, Europe’s most compelling archaeological site and one of Italy’s most important attractions visited by 2.5 million of tourists every year. Pompeii is priceless from an archaeological point of view and much of its value lies in the fact that it was buried under a layer of over 6 meters of lapilli (burning pumice stone), as Pliny the Younger describes in his celebrated account of the eruption, thanks to which the town owes its exceptional state of preservation today. It is the only archaeological site in the world, along with its “twin town” Herculaneum, capable of giving visitors the experience of a Roman town, where life has remained firm to a distant morning in 79 AD. Once Pompeii was a haven for many wealthy Romans and the rich remains of frescos, mosaic floors, sculptures, houses and apartments perhaps we wouldn’t mind living in today, it all holds still a strong fascination for contemporary visitors.

The Great Beauty of Pompei, Naples and Amalfi Coast – Curiosity:

  • The ruins at Pompeii were first discovered late in the 16th century by the architect Domenico Fontana. Work began at Pompeii in 1748, under the patronage of Don Carlos, king of Naples, and in 1763 an inscription (“Rei publicae Pompeianorum”) was found that identified the site as Pompeii. The work at these towns in the mid-18th century marked the start of the modern science of archaeology.
  • As Pompeii it was a port, there was a sailor’s quarters there, with many of bars, public baths, brothels, restaurants, and places of entertainment.
  • One of Pompeii‘s most impressive aspects regards water supply. In this well-plumbed city, lead pipes funneled water from an aqueduct-fed reservoir at the high end of town directly to water tanks installed just below the level of the reservoir and the right water pressure was assured by gravity. Public fountains provided water to everybody and permitted the building of impressive public baths where Romans could relax and a steady stream of water was used to flushed the chariot-rutted streets.
